It’s the most colourful time of the year! Our weekends will soon be wrapped in scarves and to fully enjoy all the possible fall festivities, it’s important to get those pesky household winter preparation tasks completed sooner rather than later. Here are Inligtech guidelines for your autumn home maintenance.
1. Clean out the gutters.
We can all agree to one thing and that is no one loves this job, but we all need to do it annually because prevention is better than cure and prepping and getting it done now can prevent big problems later on.
2. Clean outdoor furniture and gardening tools.
It can never hurt to prepare early for the cold winter ahead so clean your outdoor furniture and gardening tools so they’re ready for storage over the winter.
3. Prepare your furnace for winter duty.
Get your furnace professionally serviced prepping it for the cold season. If you are more of a Do It Yourself person then at the minimum, visually inspect your furnace and replace the furnace filter before turning it on for the first time.
4. Clean the fireplace and chimney.
It’s going to be a long day of cold weathers ahead so inspect the flue, clean out the fireplace and start stocking up firewood. Call in professionals to the chimney swept and check the indoor and outdoor wiring so that if any upgrades are required you’d be prepared way ahead.

Who wouldn’t love to have access to fresh spices all year round, you can install a small indoor garden on your windowsill or on a shelf near a window to have easy access to fresh rosemary, sage, and basil, even when the weather might not call for gardening indoor plants. The best part of houseplants is always good go-to decorations because they require little upkeep, and add a touch of freshness to any space. 7. Mow the lawn.
As all the flora world will hibernate in the upcoming seasons’ cut the grass one last time, and mow it short to prevent diseases from spreading. Collect the grass clippings and add them to your compost pile. While you are at it complete your edging and weed-whacking chores. When you’re done mowing, winterize your mower and other outdoor power tools by draining the gasoline so it doesn’t become stale and gunk up your equipment next year.
